Morning: begin in Roč
Start with Roč and its cultural setting before following the route towards Hum. This order lets the Glagolitic Alley build towards the town gate. Have a look at the day’s weather and confirm any interior visits you care about before leaving your accommodation.
Keep the first part of the day flexible. Stop only where parking is safe and permitted, and let an interesting detail take longer than expected. The point of the itinerary is to give your day shape without filling every minute.
Midday: arrive in Hum
Reach Hum with time to walk before lunch. Our suggested 1–2 hours covers an easy introduction to the town; allow more if you want the museum or a leisurely meal. These are planning suggestions, not guaranteed visit or travel durations.
Choose the order around what is open. A museum booking, an arranged church visit or a lunch reservation should determine the practical rhythm. Between those moments, leave space for the simple pleasure of being somewhere small.
Optional: the different texture of Kotli
Kotli offers a change of scene, with old village architecture, a preserved mill and stone basins shaped by the Mirna River. Add it only if the weather, daylight and your remaining time make sense. Water levels and the appearance of the cascades vary; do not plan around a promise of a particular photograph.
Check local guidance before walking close to the river. Wet stone can be slippery, and a scenic pool is not automatically a designated swimming place. The quieter option may simply be to look at the village and return without adding another activity.
Another day for Motovun and the interior
Motovun deserves its own generous share of time. If you want to combine several hill towns, consider staying inland and spreading the route over more than one day. Repeated arrivals, parking and departures can otherwise take the pleasure out of a scenic journey.
